THE problems being experienced in West Branksome with high traffic volumes on local roads is mainly due to the high levels of congestion in Ashley Road, Ringwood Road, Alder Road and Herbert Avenue.

These four roads surround the boroughs of Newtown, Alderney, Rossmore and West Branksome. Traffic trying to avoid the congestion at morning/evening rush hours is cutting through the local roads in the boroughs.

Recreation Road, in particular, suffers additional problems throughout the day as large volumes of traffic use the road when children are being dropped off and picked up from Heatherlands School.

At a recent meeting of the Branksome West Residents' Association, we discussed the above issues with residents.

The options considered by residents included blocking off one end of Recreation Road, yellow lines along one side of Recreation Road with timed restrictions, removal of the sleeping policemen and chicanes to improve traffic flow as quite often traffic becomes trapped between the sleeping policemen.

Residents have been long suffering with the often nightmare road congestion in their local roads. It's time Poole council tackled the ever increasing congestion in the area.

Let’s hope the petition raised by Cindy Harris and Barbara Reeve, with support from Cllr Marion Le Poidevin, starts a process in the council to sort these rat run problems out. We of course fully support them.
