THE Isle of Wight Festival celebrated its big five-oh at the weekend. Thousands upon thousands of party-goers descended on Seaclose Park on Thursday for the sold-out festival with tents, beer and plenty of glitter. Here are my top seven highlights:

1 The Killers brought the whole weekend to a close. They opened with their more recent hit ‘The Man’ with lead singing Brandon Flowers bounding on stage donning a sparkly pink jacket. He made it clear from the word go that he was the man and was going to give it his all. Highlight from the set definitely has to be ‘Mr Brightside’ – always a crowd pleaser it was hands in the air and jump, jump, jump, jump.

2 A festival with no mud? Who’d heard of such a thing. But with temperatures in the mid-20s, revellers were treated to glorious sunshine over the whole four days. Some obviously hadn’t got the memo from the weatherman though and not packed their SPF – there were some very dodgy tan lines, a lot of white vests, red bodies.

3 Headlining Friday night were Leicester rockers Kasabian and (cliche alert) they were on Fire. Their passion and enthusiasm catching as the crowd rocked, cheered and moshed for the entire evening. Even after another two days of full-on music ‘Shoot the Runner’ is still stuck in my head.

4 Football fever hit the camp on Sunday. Thousands of England fans cheered and danced in the BT Sport Field of Dreams where England v Panama was shown on a big screen. The atmosphere was electric. The sound of Three Lions was never out of earshot.

England’s first goal got the biggest reception. Cheers, dancing, beer throwing and even the setting off of flares. And to be honest even after the sixth English goal, celebrations didn’t really let up. It’s coming home!

5 Nile Rogers AND Chic. A band I’ve seen a handful of times before but just keep getting better. I love them. People wanted to party and and Nile Rodgers and Chic ticked that box in a with a big green marker pen. It was hit after hit sending the crowd completely wild. ‘Let’s Dance’, ‘Good Times’, ‘Get Lucky’, ‘Le Freak’ you couldn’t help but dance.

6 To celebrate the festival’s ‘golden jubilee’ revellers were encouraged to wear gold on the Saturday. It was great to so many people embracing the gold theme. There were gold glitter beards, superheroes, princesses, cowboys, but my favourites had to be the golden gangsters.

7 Normally at a festival I want to be right in the mix. In the front with all the superfans but Saturday was hot. So I was thankful for a stellar line-up of what I would call ‘chilled’ acts. Kodaline kicked it off, followed by Blossoms and then James Bay. Room to move, a good view of the stage and a nice cold frosty one. Lovely.
