THE VDub at the Pub festival went vintage at the weekend, with more than 120 people taking part in a 10-mile themed bike ride in fancy dress.

Around 2,500 people packed out the three-day event, near the banks of the River Stour at Wimborne.

Sunday proved the main day to showcase the Volkswagen Campers, Beetles and other vehicles, with Saturday taking on the vintage theme with a range of activities.

Organiser Christina Pengelly, speaking to the Echo on Saturday, said: "We've had ladies getting their hair done in 1940s style, we have plenty of beautiful vintage bicycles as well.

"We also have the South Coast Cruisers, who specialise in bikes like Choppers from the 1970s.

"Everyone arrived on Friday, and we are kicking off today.

"This is a family-orientated VW festival and today is Vintage Saturday, we also have a lot of vintage tractors and cars in the main arena."

Sunday is the day for the main business of showcasing the VWs.

Money raised at the festival goes to Dorset Air Ambulance.

The vintage bicycle ride also included competitions for the the best dressed, and the most curly moustache.

Other attractions included stand up paddleboarding and kayaking on the River Stour, a Zorbing arena, surf simulator, climbing wall, tug-of-war and a dodge ball contest.

Live music throughout the weekend included Dave Manning, Junkyard acoustic, Jesse Ray, and Voodoo Vegas.

The England Panama game was shown on Sunday.

A festival spokesman said: "We pride ourselves on attracting some fine festival food traders and street food stalls.

"Expect great grills, tasty Thai, posh pie, crafted coffee, cheeky chicken, stunning stone baked pizza and more.

"We also have food traders in the market selling cheeses, fine baking, jams and lovely sweets."
