A FRUSTRATED pensioner has admitted his relief after the council cancelled a £21 invoice to have a light replaced.

Charles King, who lives in East Howe, Bournemouth, said he would not pay the charge and would go to court if he had to.

However, after ward councillor Stephen Bartlett submitted a complaint on his behalf, the invoice was scrapped.

Mr King is a full-time carer for his wife who suffers from dementia.

After the Daily Echo reported on the situation, Bournemouth Borough Council sent a letter to Mr King informing him the fine had been cancelled.

"It seemed ridiculous that they would do try to charge for this, especially as they have done it before for free.

"It seems that social services are trying to get their hands on our money.

"Fortunately it is a positive outcome, but I'm not really sure it should have ever reached this stage."

Mr King, who has had six heart attacks and suffers from unstable angina, diabetes and arthritis, said the rear exterior light at the property, which was designed to support disabled people.
