LAND in Shaftesbury is set to be transferred to the town council by Dorset County Council.
The site in Salisbury Street was acquired by the county council a number of years ago for road works but a report published ahead of its cabinet meeting next week recommends that it is transferred to Shaftesbury Town Council for use as an open space.
“The land is unfenced, therefore already open for public use, and there are no further highway proposals for that area,” the report says.
“It is therefore recommended that the county council accede to the request and transfers the land to Shaftesbury Town Council for use as public open space.”
The request for the transfer was originally made by the town council in conjunction with Shaftesbury Open Spaces Group.
A decision will be made at the meeting on Wednesday (June 27).
