FOLK fans will be flocking to their favourite free family music festival in Poole next weekend.

Poole Quay will be transformed into a waterside music venue on Saturday complete with outdoor stages hosting award-winning folk acts, street ceilidhs and morris dancing displays for Folk on the Quay.

Part of Poole’s Wave 105 Summertime in the South events programme, this year's festival includes play and dance across two music stages. The dancing starts at 11am with live music from 12noon until 9pm.

Developed by Poole Tourism, working with Purbeck Valley Folk Festival organisers Catherine and Paul Burke, the event includes a main stage at the roundabout on Poole Quay and the Landlubbers stage opposite the Poole Arms.

As well as the outdoor stages, the live music sessions will also take place at venues around Poole Quay including The Lord Nelson, Quayside Emporium, The Angel and The Rope & Anchor.

Graham Richardson, Tourism Liaison Manager, Bournemouth and Poole Tourism, said: “Folk on the Quay brings some great folk artists to Poole with a real variety of music and styles. The combination of local, national and international performers brings a real festival feel to this superb location, so come and join us for a perfect sun soaked ceilidh on the Quay.”

A colourful festival of morris dancing will see performances throughout the day featuring styles from across the UK including Cotswold, Ireland and Dorset, plus Bulgarian folk dancing.

Confirmed music acts include headline act The Eskies who will bring their unique brand of gypsy jazz and sea shanties; Jackie Oates, BBC folk award winner and riotous gypsy folk, trans-European melodies and African rhythms by Ushti Baba.
