DORSET Police is objecting to plans for a new 'gastro pub' at Bournemouth's Hilton Hotel.
Hotel owners THAT Group are seeking a licence for a ground floor bar called 'Room 173 and Pergola', serving alcohol between 11am and 2am.
However the force has claimed it could exacerbate anti-social behaviour in the town centre. A previous hearing on the application was deferred due to the late submission of police evidence.
The objection from force licensing enforcement officer Sarah Dutton states: "It is agreed that the area is already licensed, however for the previous stated purpose of a café.
"This application is for a gastro pub, which is a strong demarcation from the original intended use."
She adds: "By allowing another premises to operate during the hours where crime and disorder is at its peak, it would further exacerbate the problems already experienced within the night time economy."
The application will be heard by the licensing board at 9.45am today.
