YOUNG swimming stars at a Bournemouth school are celebrating a hattrick of local gala success.

The youngsters from Moordown St John's Primary, Vicarage Road, were presented with trophies by the town's deputy mayor Cllr Eddie Coupe.

Head teacher Peter Herbert said: "We have a particular strength in swimming and an interest in swimming from the children and families at our school.

"This year we were able to succeed in all three primary school Bournemouth galas, so it is a hattrick of success.

"We are just pleased for the children, that they have done so well."

Eighteen months ago the school saw major investment in its pool, said Mr Herbert.

He explained: "We did a big fundraiser to refurbish and deepen the pool so older children could swim in it.

"Now we're able to offer it as a real going concern to the local community, and it is used a lot."

The local community is invited to the school's summer fayre, which is scheduled on campus on July 13.

It takes place 5-7.30pm and money raised goes back to the school.
