POLICE joined forces with other agencies to stop and check vehicles in rural parts of Hampshire.

The A337 near Brockenhurst was one of the locations used to check for a range of offences.

Hampshire Police were joined by agencies including the county council, district councils, HM Revenue and Customs and the Environment Agency.

A total of 400 commercial vehicles were stopped and four fixed penalty notices were issued for failed MOTs.

Red diesel was detected in one flatbed lorry, several vehicle defects were detected and one man was arrested for possession of cannabis.

Sergeant Andrew Williams from Country Watch said: "These multi-agency operations play a key part in our efforts to tackle a range of rural crimes.

"I am grateful to our many partners for their involvement in these and future activities. We will continue to work together across rural parts of Hampshire to tackle all types of criminality."
