A MAN found guilty of drug driving and possession of a small quantity of cocaine in Poole has been banned from the roads for two years.

Matthew Bamber, of West Mills Road, Dorchester, was found guilty after trial in May this year.

On Friday (June 15), during his sentencing hearing, Poole Magistrates’ Court was told how Bamber, aged 42, was pulled over by police on the A35 Upton Bypass on September 23 last year.

After officers carried out a drug swipe of his vehicle, it gave a positive reading and Bamber, who was working as a driver for a charity at the time, was taken to the police station for a blood test.

Results showed the proportion of a controlled drug, namely 24ugl of cocaine, exceeded the specified limit.

Tests also showed the proportion of Benzoylecgonine, namely 138ugl, also exceeded the prescribed limit.

After officers searched Bamber, a small wrap of cocaine was found on his person.

Bamber, currently unemployed, was banned from driving for 24 months, ordered to complete 120 hours unpaid work and handed a 12-month community order.

He was also ordered to pay £285 in costs and victim surcharge.
