A DRIVER pulled over by police after making a ‘sharp turn without signalling’ was found to be driving unfit through cannabis use, a court heard.

Ahmed Yusef, of Montague Gardens, London, appeared at Poole Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to one charge of driving unfit through drugs, and to not having a driving licence, insurance nor a valid MOT certificate.

Prosecuting, Nicola Reece, told the court officers became suspicious of Yusef’s VW Golf as he drove along West Overcliff Drive, Bournemouth, on October 25 last year.

She explained police were alerted to the 23-year-old’s driving after he made a sharp left turn without indicating.

After he was pulled over, officers said they could smell a strong odour of cannabis from his car.

Tests carried out at the police station showed he was actually under the specified limit, but officers charged him because he failed three impairment tests.

Yusef, who admitted all charges, was handed a community order which included a requirement to complete 50 hours of unpaid work with a year.

He was also banned from driving for 18 months, and ordered to pay £135 victim surcharge and costs.
