THE future of two cypress trees will be considered by councillors on Monday, June 18.
The owner of a property in Elgin Road wants to cut down the trees to allow more light to reach an orchard.
The council has already allowed the felling of six such trees in the immediate vicinity.
A report by council officers says: "The objection states that in the view of the objector, ‘a flowering orchard and ripening fruit would enhance the amenity value rather than reduce it'."
However, officers deem the remaining trees to be "a significant contribution to the visual amenities and character of the Meyrick Park/Talbot Woods conservation area", and have urged that a tree preservation order be maintained.
The planning board meets at 2.30pm.
