TWO people have been taken to hospital following an accident that took place on the A31 earlier this morning.

Dorset Police say the pair, both drivers of the two-vehicles involved, suffered slight injuries and were conveyed to Poole Hospital as a precaution.

The accident, involving a Mercedes C-Class car and a Skoda Octavia car, was reported to Dorset Police at 7.42am.

Initially the entire A31 was closed, but police lifted the eastbound closure around 9am, and the westbound closure should be lifted in the next few minutes.

Earlier this morning, police told the Echo: "Fire and ambulance have been requested.

"Highways have also been requested because there are reports of fluid and debris on the road."

The accident happened between the Lake Gates Roundabout and Corfe Mullen.

A road closure was put on at Lake Gates, and diversions were implemented at the Roundhouse Roundabout and the Merley Bird Roundabout.
