A DOCTORS practice in Christchurch is assisting a new drop in service for all BH23 postcode residents.

Highcliffe Medical Centre has signed up to the support the initiative, which is being run by Sovereign and Somerford ARC

The 'BH23 Drop-in - health, wealth & wellbeing support' service aims to give local people access to advice about a wide range of social issues, such as employment, training and careers advice, housing, finances and budgeting, carer support and health advice.

Lea Hampton, Sovereign communities officer, said: “We have a lot of homes in Somerford and opportunities like this, which offer a safety net of support for our residents, are really valuable.

"We know that some people feel isolated and have health concerns and anxieties, and a drop-in service in the heart of the community will give them a better understanding of the variety of support that they can access. We’re looking forward to working with all of the partners involved in this new initiative.”

Rebecca Collins, GP at Highcliffe Medical Centre, said: "We're really pleased to be a part of this new service, and feel it will help give our area a real sense of community and make a difference to people's lives."

The BH23 Drop-in will launch on June 6, and will run on the first Wednesday of every month from 9.30am to 12pm at Somerford ARC.

Last month the Daily Echo reported medical surgeries in Christchurch could soon open for urgent appointments seven-days-a week to cope with demand.
