A LARGE detached home in Westbourne has been earmarked for demolition.
Clarendon Homes (Westbourne) Ltd is seeking planning permission to knock down the existing building at 6 Clarendon Road and build a block of eight flats.
The site is within the Westbourne
According to a planning statement by Pure Town Planning, "the existing dwelling is of little architectural merit" and "therefore, the demolition of the buildings is considered to be acceptable in principle".
The firm says the proposed replacement "draws influence from the nearby ‘Toorak’ building" and will fit better "with the traditional character of the existing buildings and the pattern of development within the conservation area".
The applicant says its scheme reflects the pattern of development in the area, as "many historic villas have been converted into flats".
There would be parking for nine vehicles.
