BOURNEMOUTH council will discuss a park and ride scheme with AFC Bournemouth as part of the planning process for the club's new stadium.

Councillor Philip Stanley-Watts has complained about "traffic chaos" after matches, with vehicles reportedly blocking nearby residential roads, and the lack of a travel plan for the area around Vitality Stadium.

Responding to the councillor's concerns at full council, Cllr Robert Lawton, cabinet member for housing, said: "As part of the planning application process for this new stadium the council will be working closely with the club to ensure that an appropriate travel plan is put in place to accommodate the additional capacity and traffic."

He said it was "too early to decide" if a park and ride scheme would be appropriate, but it was "the sort of measure" the borough will discuss with Cherries "as part of the travel planning required".
