THE popular Metropole Street Market is back in Bournemouth this weekend, promising a carnival-like spectacle.

The first market of 2018 will be at Holdenhurst Road, Lansdowne, on Sunday, May 27, 11am-9pm, and will have an Alice in Wonderland theme.

It is supported by Bournemouth Town Centre Business Improvement District and local businesses.

Free entertainment will include the Street comedy duo, the stilt walkers Beetlejuice Circus, Pantheatrix, and First Position School of Dance. There will be live music from Jemma Davies and Grace, Karl Lattimer, Lewis Jordan Brown and more.

From 2.30-4.30pm there will be a Mad Hatter’s tea party, where families who have bought tickets will enjoy games and a traditional cream tea. Tickets can be booked by emailing admin@metropolemarket.co.uk and those who have not booked for the tea are still encouraged to dress up and enter the Alice in Wonderland costume competition to win a family ticket to Adventure Wonderland.

The market will feature a range of food and drink too, including Mexican, Thai, Italian, Lebanese, Nigerian and Indian street food. There will be burgers, cheeses and seafood as well as varied sweet treats like fudge, ice-cream and churros will also contribute to the exciting variety of food stalls.

Organisers have collaborated with community groups to create Lansdowne’s first “yarn bomb” – large woollen art installations in the shape of flowers, playing cards, flamingos and more. And there will be a busking competition.

Co-organiser Lyn Turnbull said: “We are looking forward to welcoming people of all ages for a day of magical fun in Lansdowne. The first market will bring Alice’s world of wonders to Bournemouth through a fantastic array of entertainers, artists, traders and craftspeople. I hope it will be a day to remember for all.”

Further market will take place on the last Sunday of each month in June, July, September and October.
