A PROPERTY was cordoned off in Hamworthy after a concern for welfare.

Dorset Police sealed off the address, at Keysworth Road, Turlin Moor, after reports of escaped gas at the property at around 1.40pm on Tuesday.

Paramedics and firefighters were on standby while the drama unfolded.

SGN vehicles were also spotted in the area.

Residents of nearby properties had to be evacuated.

Bournemouth Echo:

Shortly after 7pm officers were able to enter the property and it was established that there was no threat from escaped gas.

The cordon was removed and residents were allowed back into their homes.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "Due to a report of possible escaped gas at the address, a cordon was put in place around the property and the fire service attended as a precaution. The gas network was also contacted and neighbouring properties were evacuated.

"A 51-year-old Poole woman was arrested on suspicion of threatening to damage property or endanger life and is assisting officers with their enquiries."

Superintendent Fiona Grant, of Dorset Police, said: “We appreciate this incident has caused considerable disruption to local residents, and I would like to thank them for their patience and co-operation.”

Police said on Wednesday morning that the arrested woman was later "de-arrested" and taken to hospital after complaining of back pain. She is continuing to assist with an investigation, a spokesman said.

Officers will be carrying out patrols to reassure the local community and will be happy to answer questions, Dorset Police said.
