POOLE council is to hand out £150,000 in business rates support this year.

The authority was allocated more than half a million pounds of a £300m four-year Government fund which aims to support firms facing the steepest increase following the 2017 rates revaluation.

The council came in for criticism last year for including the likes of cosmetics giant Lush on a list of companies it would support through the scheme however the council said that the draft proposal was for "modelling purposes".

At Thursday's meeting of the council's business improvement overview and scrutiny committee, councillors are being recommended to approve this year's funding criteria which will see the discounts automatically applied to eligible businesses.
