A MAN has been arrested following an assault which left a man in need of surgery after his arm was impaled on the spike of a gate.

Police said a 27-year-old Bournemouth man has been questioned on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm and has since been released under investigation.

They said the man attended Bournemouth police station after a CCTV appeal.

A 46-year-old local man was injured after an incident when he was walking into Denmark Road from Castle Road in Bournemouth.

It was reported that two men bumped into each other, which resulted in a scuffle between the pair at 1.30pm on Friday March 16.

The 46-year-old man said he was pushed on to the railings of some iron gates. His arm was impaled on the spike of the gate.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said the man freed himself and sought help from a nearby doctor's surgery. He was taken to hospital for treatment to an artery injury, which has required him to undergo surgery.
