FANS of fiction and fantasy were out in force at the BIC for the latest Film and Comic Con exhibition to come to Bournemouth.

The two-day event has attracted people from across the region to come together and share their passion for everything from Game of Thornes and Star Wars to Spider Man and Deadpool.

Many visitors took the opportunity to show off their best fancy dress outfits at the convention.

Famous names from the world of entertainment were on hand to meet the public, including Colin Baker, who played the sixth incarnation of the Doctor in the hit BBC series Doctor Who.

The event also included exhibitor stalls offering memorabilia and collectables, a gaming zone with some of the all-time classics and a range of free talks.

Fans of cosplay, the hobby which sees people wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character, were also catered for with a dedicated area offering advice sessions, costume making and panel discussions.

Tom Gilson, 31, from West Moors, has attended the Comic Con in Bournemouth since it first came to the town several years ago.

"I really enjoying coming along for the cosplay," he said.

"The event is a great excuse to dress up. You get meet a lot of people, who all share a passion, but put their own spin on their outfits.

"Quite a few people I have seen for the first time at events not in an outfit and then next time they have really gone for it which is great."

The world of film and comics gives fans a wide-range of ideas to play with when it comes to dressing up.

While the popular figures of Harley Quinn, Storm Troopers and Darth Vader were all on show, there was also more extravagant efforts including Link from the Zelda gaming franchise.

Syd Bennett, 15, and Ella Finnie came to the event from Southampton. They said they really enjoyed the mix of people and lengths people went to with their costumes.

"I like looking at what people do for cosplay and taking inspiration from it for my future outfits," Syd said.

The event is on all day today and continues tomorrow.
