AN INJURED rock climber was evacuated from cliffs near Swanage on Saturday. (May 5)

The climber, who suffered a suspected broken arm, was pinpointed with the aid of a passing kayaker, who was in communication with the climbers and had a VHF radio.

Swanage lifeboat was able to locate the kayaker using direction finding equipment.

A Swanage RNLI spokesman explained: "Having found the injured climber the inshore lifeboat evacuated him from the base of the cliffs to the all-weather lifeboat and he was taken to North Haven Point, where he was transferred to a waiting ambulance."

The climber was recovered around 3.20pm west of Blackers Hole Cave, near Anvil Point.

"Both boats were washed down, refuelled and made ready for further service and the volunteer crews were able to continue their day in the sunshine."
