A POOLE schoolboy has raised a staggering £6,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support after learning his gran has terminal cancer.

Longfleet Primary pupil Adam Nash, 11, is now aiming to raise even more with the help of his celebrity cousin, Coronation Street's Georgia May Foote.

The determined youngster is in training to run 25km at an outdoor obstacle race called Runstock, due to take place in June this year in Northamptonshire.

His proud gran, Jill Bennett, and the rest of his family are backing Adam's efforts and urging members of the public to make donations through his Just Giving page.

Georgia, a runner-up on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2015, told her army of Twitter followers: "My family are so overwhelmed with your generosity and support for my little cousin.

“We have just smashed 5k. Thank you. Let's keep it rising."

Adam, who is in Year 6, has so far raised £6,100.

He said: "I am doing this because my grandma has cancer and I love her very much to the moon and back. Also, she makes the world’s greatest pasta so please sponsor us for the run we are going to do."

Adam’s dad Leon Nash, 39, a secondary school teacher at Glenmoor and Winton Academies in Bournemouth, said Adam and his grandma, who lives near Reading, are extremely close.

"They have an incredibly strong bond" he said. "He has been very upset about his grandma’s illness – there have been lots of tears.

"Adam has taken part in a number of similar challenges and I am confident he will complete Runstock."

Runstock sees competitors run a 5km off-road course as many times as possible in eight hours.

Rat Race Adventure Sports specialises in extreme events in the UK and globally. The company recently revealed how it has helped to raise more than a million pounds for the charity Children with Cancer UK.

Rat Race founder Jim Mee said: "Adam’s fundraising drive is an inspiration to us all. Lots of people who take part in our events fundraise for causes close to their hearts, raising many thousands of pounds.

"I’m sure that Adam will complete his challenge in fantastic style."
