A RESTAURANT manager has assured the public he has done all he can since a “disappointing” food hygiene inspection.

Dosa World in Old Christchurch Road received a zero rating from Bournemouth Borough Council inspectors last month, when they found cockroaches on the premises.

However, the establishment’s manager Gugan Nadarajah says he has invested a significant amount of money and time into tackling the situation following the officer’s findings.

This included a thorough “deep clean” of the premises and on-going visits from pest control and property care firm Rentokil.

Mr Nadarajah says he has spent more than £2,000 in response to the inspection and is committed to securing a food hygiene rating of five.

“I did get a disappointing rating last month and I have worked hard since then to make changes,” he said.

“Officers from the council have come in after the inspection and said they are happy with the effort I have made and we are still working on it.

“If it had been serious the council would have closed it down, but they have seen what has been done and said it is a good job.

“I closed the restaurant for a day to get a professional cleaning company in and I have had Rentokil here as well.

“I want to get a five rating for the restaurant.”

Mr Nadarajah is in his tenth year of running the eatery in Bournemouth and says its popularity has grown throughout that time.

Inspectors reported a number of issues during the visit to the restaurant, including no proof of food hygiene training for staff, no hot water supply to the wash hand basin and poor condition fridges and freezers.

While Mr Nadarajah says he is doing all he can to tackle the issues that the restaurant faces, he claims litter issues around the premises, which he has contacted the council about, are part of the wider problem that needs to be addressed.

“I have complained to the council and enforcement team about the litter which has come from around premises around us, but nothing was done about it,” he said.

“I spoke to the council about the bins and people came out with bigger bins. They are clearing them out twice a week but there is still a lot of rubbish lying around.”

The restaurant manager confirmed, contrary to initial reports, the company’s accounts are up to date. He plans to apply for a reinspection at the earliest opportunity, with hopes of securing a five rating.

  • The Daily Echo attempted to contact the restaurant on Monday, however as the business was closed for the day Mr Nadarajah was not available for interview.
