THE next stage of Bournemouth council’s ‘town centre accessibility’ scheme will see further roadworks next week.

Bourne Avenue and Avenue Road will be closed both ways from April 30 to May 4. This will be followed by a one-way closure of the same stretch – southbound from the Triangle – between May 7 and 18.

The work forms part of a wider phase of roadworks which started at the beginning of the month.

New road surface is being laid and zebra crossings are being created as the speed limit is reduced to 20mph in Bourne Avenue and Braidley Road.

There will also be improved parking facilities for the disabled and the removal of “unnecessary street furniture clutter”.

Phase one work took place in the spring and summer of last year, and included the introduction of a 20mph speed limit and resurfacing in Bourne Avenue.

The 20mph limit will apply from Avenue Road at the library to Bourne Avenue near the tennis courts, and extending just past the junction with St Stephen’s Road and Braidley Road.

A raised zebra crossing outside Tesco Metro is already in place.
