A ROGUE waste carrier who fly-tipped rubbish he was paid to dispose of has been prosecuted.

Lee Spurdle dumped building waste in north Dorset after taking money from a resident who was having their house renovated.

He was charged following a joint operation between the Dorset Waste Partnership (DWP) and South Somerset District Council. Enforcement officers from both authorities investigated a spate of fly-tipping in November last year.

Waste was discovered dumped across four separate locations, including near Lenthay Dairy Farm in Sherborne. Officers found evidence linking the rubbish to 30-year-old Spurdle, who lives in Yeovil.

Spurdle was then arrested and interviewed. On Wednesday, April 18, he appeared at court to admit fly-tipping. He was fined £1,588.14.

Jeremy Gallagher, an enforcement officer with the DWP, said: "I hope this case demonstrates that fly-tipping will not be tolerated.

"By working with neighbouring councils as well as residents, we can work more effectively to clamp down on fly-tippers and stop this anti-social, illegal and dangerous activity, which last year cost Dorset tax-payers £15,000."
