THE Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has announced it will take no further action after an incident which closed Bournemouth's mortuary last year.
A build-up of noxious chemicals led to some staff at council-run Holly Tree Lodge being hospitalised in February 2017, later traced to a defect in the drainage system,
HSE issued a 'Notice of Contravention', and problems were identified in an inspection by the Human Tissue Authority in July that year.
According to a report to the council's audit and governance committee, the executive has called on the borough to "outline the arrangements the council has put in place to ensure the mortuary’s drainage system is maintained in efficient working order, in good repair and in a clean condition on an ongoing basis".
HSE is also planning a "comprehensive mortuary facility inspection visit" at some point in future, which may be unannounced.
