A BOURNEMOUTH schoolgirl and her mum are featuring in a video to mark World Down’s Syndrome Day.

Four-year-old Neive Frankland is one of 50 children from across the UK taking part in the carpool karaoke lip sync video.

It shows the children, along with their mums, singing along to Christina Perri’s multi-platinum selling track, “A Thousand Years”.

The mums are all part of a Facebook group known as “Designer Genes” which was created for parents who have a child with Down’s Syndrome born in 2013/14.

They decided to create the video to raise awareness of Down’s Syndrome and to illustrate that their children are the same as everyone else’s.

It came about after one mum saw a video featuring sign language and decided to replicate the idea for those with Down’s Syndrome.

“There has been a lot of negative publicity about Down’s Syndrome” said Clare, who lives in Winton with Neive, eight-year-old Anya, six-year-old Isaac and their dad, Simon.

“This video shows that our children are just happy four-year-olds who are enjoying music.”

The group hopes the video will spread to a wide audience worldwide and have urged people to share it on social media.

The mums filmed themselves in their cars and uploaded the results. A dad in the group pulled the clips together and created the video.

“The result was astonishing” said a spokesman for the group. “A guaranteed positive tear-jerker that visualised every conceivable message about disability, diversity and inclusion without having to say a word.”

Within 24 hours of the first draft being posted in secret it already had 1,500 views and the group knew they had a potential hit for the upcoming World Down’s Syndrome Day, an annual worldwide campaign on March 21, sharing positive messages about the condition.

In an attempt to avoid copyright issues the group contacted the original artist, Christina Perri, via her husband on Twitter - Paul Costabile. Within an hour, the LA based couple were declaring their support for the idea, committing their multi-million social media following and waiving any copyright claim to the music in support of the campaign.
