Passengers travelling on trains between Bournemouth and Southampton will face disruption this morning.

Due to a track circuit failure between Bournemouth and Southampton Central trains are running at a reduced speed on the Southampton bound line.

Trains between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 20 minutes or revised.

Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

The failure is specifically between Bournemouth and Brockenhurst, meaning that Southampton-bound trains will be held by up to 15 minutes to pass through the affected area.

Track circuits are the method that signallers use in order to detect the presence of trains on the track. Therefore until this is repaired, trains have to come to a stop and seek verbal permission to move forwards through the signal.

In order to ease congestion and manage the service throughout the day, from 10am, trains heading towards Southampton will not call at Hinton Admiral, New Milton, or Sway.

Passengers at any station South of Hinton Admiral requiring these stations should travel to Brockenhurst and change there for a train back down.

Passengers at these stations requiring travel towards Southampton should travel down to Bournemouth and change there for a train back up.
