AS we go about our daily lives - sitting in queues of traffic, yawning, having baths - we could be forgiven for failing to see the humour in what we’re doing.

But Michael McIntyre has a gift for turning some of the most mundane situations into the most hilarious.

Britain’s biggest comedian appeared at the BIC on Thursday evening – the first date of the UK-leg of his Big World Tour, which also sees him performing in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and Norway among a number of other countries across the globe.

We enjoyed half an hour of laughs from the comical support act Andrew Bird, who regaled us with tales of his family life, before the man himself took to the stage to rapturous applause.

Being the very first night of the tour, there were one or two slips of the tongue, which only served to add more humour and a more personal touch to the evening.

There was also a little more swearing than during McIntyre’s TV appearances, but this is something to be expected in a live show.

I had heard a couple of the jokes before, but this only made them slightly less funny. The humour lies not only in the fact that we can all relate to these day-to-day events we find ourselves in, but also in McIntyre’s giggly, flamboyant delivery.

I have a feeling that simple things like trying to find the light switch in a hotel room and putting on my intermittent windscreen wipers will now forever raise a smile.
