A STAR of the Hellraiser horror movies will be in Bournemouth to introduce a rare screening of the original film.

Nicholas Vince will answer questions before the showing of Clive Barker's 1987 movie at Boscombe’s Shelley Theatre on Saturday, March 10, 7.45pm.

Projectionist and horror fan Darren Payne has put on a series of screenings on 35mm film under the banner Dirt in the Gate. Last year’s events included an all-day festival called Grindfest.

He said: “We had a fantastic 2017 screening increasingly rare 35mm prints including our first all day Grindfest last September and ending with The Shining in December where we fortunate to screen a Warner Bros archive print.

“2018 is looking very exciting with our tentpole Grindfest event covering two days in September with some very special 35mm screenings taking place.

“However, we are starting the season with the 1987 horror, Hellraiser. We are delighted that Nicholas Vince will be appearing live on stage before the screening to chat about his career and his experiences working on the film and its sequel, Hellbound: Hellraiser 2.

“Mr Vince portrays the Chatterer Cenobite in Clive Barkers ground-breaking horror which really stands up well today and has proven to be a modern classic. He will also be available to sign autographs before the screening.”

Mr Payne bought a projector from Italy so he could give audiences the experiences of watching films the traditional way on celluloid. Previous screenings have also included a showing of The Exorcist with actress Eileen Dietz.

He said: “This event has been over a year in the making as UK screening rights were tied up in the USA, making a UK screening very difficult. This has now been resolved thanks to Arrow Films and was I overjoyed when I heard they also had an original 35mm theatrical print which I can confirm does look fantastic on screen.

“I'm sure everyone that comes to the event will have a memorable evening meeting Mr Vince and experiencing seeing this iconic film projected the traditional way.”
