Two invaluable services have received a much-welcomed donation.

Portland Coastwatch and Muntsy's, which supports adults with learning disabilities or additional needs to develop their independence, both received £50 from The Heights Hotel on Portland.

The money was raised from the hotel's very first Festive Fair in December, with a special Wish Tree, drawing people's attention.

Speaking about the Wish Tree, event organiser Michelle Teague-Forder said: “During the Festive Fair, we enjoyed seeing many traders doing business with visitors and locals alike.

"We placed a beautifully illuminated Christmas tree in our main event room, which people were invited to decorate with ‘wishes’. Whether it was for wishing everyone a merry Christmas, or perhaps better health and a speedy recovery for a family member, the wishes came in thick and fast.”

Michelle added: “We sold wishes in the form of hand-made ornaments, which people could write on and then hang on the tree. After the event, the tree was placed in the hotel Bistro for everyone to appreciate all the way up to and including Christmas."

On receiving about the donation, Sue Munts from Muntsy’s said: “Our group members are at the very heart of everything we do. Taking part in the Festive Fayre, gave them the opportunity to showcase their work and talents. We were delighted to be chosen as one of the recipients of the ‘Wish Tree'.

"This donation will help to contribute towards some of our activities, and will certainly benefit those who use our service.”

The Heights Hotel have already begun preparations for this year’s festive event, which will be held on December 1 and December 2.
