CONSIDERING the recent study declaring Bournemouth and Poole as the most congested towns in the country, as a daily commuter I pondered over some factors aside from high volumes of vehicles that may disrupt traffic flow.

I came to one overriding conclusion that affects many others - driving significantly below the speed limit.

This problem most commonly affects the conurbation’s faster roads, such as the national zones or other 40/50mph limits.

The national zone past the airport is by far the worst for this.

Slower drivers on this road cause rippled braking from those who catch them up, which slows down all traffic.

Especially when the conditions are exceptionally dry, there is simply no need to be in fear of driving a modern car at 60mph down that road.

I’d also like to point out the inherent dangers of driving at such speeds.

You turn your vehicle into a hazard by driving at these speeds, causing following drivers stress and forcing dangerous overtakes.

If a police officer deems you to be driving too slow you can be pulled over and fined, with up to nine points on your licence if slow driving is to blame for an accident.
