AN UNUSUAL collaboration between St Katharine's Primary School and Southbourne Surgery has resulted in an uplifting art exhibition being displayed in the surgery waiting room.

Former pupil of St Katharine's, the curator Georgia Perkins, worked with children to mount paintings based on the four elements, Earth, Wind, Fire and Water.

The school embraces opportunities for art to be displayed in a public context as creativity is an essential attribute for learning. Children enjoy exploring and developing ideas through artistic expression.

"We value art and culture at St Katharine's. We do lots of art through our project studies, which broadens minds and perspectives" said teacher Rachel Dickinson.

Pupils Harry Burton, Emily Lovegrove and Ellia Pope agreed and said: "Looking at art and creating work makes us think about who we are and about our place in the world."

The exhibition is the first of what is hoped to be a series of collaborations and can be seen at the Beaufort Road surgery until March 12.
