ADDITIONAL overnight works are scheduled to take place on Poole Bridge this month.

The 90-year-old crossing, which officially re-opened at the end of January, more than six months over schedule, is already undergoing a series of overnight closures to remove temporary timber decking and install permanent panels, as well as some painting.

These works, which started on Monday, January 29, and finish on Tuesday, February 13, have seen the bridge closed between 7pm and 7am every day except weekends.

However, from Monday, February 26, the bridge will undergo another series of overnight closures, re-opening at 7am on Saturday, March 10.

The 12 consecutive closures will enable more timber decking work to be carried out. One side of the footway will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists.

Because of the delayed delivery of permanent timber footway panels from the Czech Republic, the contractor Interserve made the decision, towards the end of the summer, to install a temporary walkway.

The Borough of Poole is assuring residents the works will not clash with resurfacing works in Blandford Road on Sunday, March 4, which will see the road shut between Rigler Road and Bridge Approach between 7.30am and 6pm.
