THE Dorset Destroyers are hoping to get into the Guinness Book of Records when a special event takes place next month.
The team will be holding a 24-hour wheelchair rugby marathon at Rossmore Leisure Centre on Saturday, March 17.
Around 40 players are expected to take part and the event will start at 1pm on the Saturday and run until 2pm on Sunday, March 18.
They are aiming to beat the current world record held in Poland.
The event is being sponsored by 4Com and Rossmore Leisure Centre has donated use of the hall for free.
The team is aiming to raise £10,000 to help fund new equipment for the club. Money raised will also go towards the Royal Signals Benevolent Fund and Cakes 4 Casualties.
Nick Coombs, who founded the Dorset Destroyers, said: “Although we are a grassroots club our aim is to build slowly and make Dorset a real force for Wheelchair Rugby in years to come, along with our other disability sports clubs that we run at Rossmore Leisure Centre.”
Members of the public are invited to attend the event.
