MOTORISTS faced lengthy delays on Poole's Alder Road earlier today after scheduled resurfacing work got under way.

The works are set to continue throughout the month.

Alder Road, between Herbert Avenue and Yarmouth Road, will be closed until 5.30pm on Friday.

Meanwhile, a southbound closure will be in place from Yarmouth Road to Ashley Road, from 7am on Monday, February 19, through until 5.30pm on Wednesday, February 28. This will also include the closure of the junctions of Gwynne Road and Recreation Road.

Two resurfacing teams will operate simultaneously in different parts of the road to help complete the £570,000 work as quickly and as safely as possible. Stop/go signs will be used to manage traffic.

The works programme will also include the installation of a pedestrian crossing across Alder Road at the Herbert Avenue junction and a link between the traffic signals at Herbert Avenue and Yarmouth Road to help ease congestion.

Council traffic manager Richard Pincroft said: "We appreciate these improvements will cause some disruption to road users."
