MEMBERS of the public are invited to view plans for a new junction on the A338 at Wessex Fields today (MON).

The event at Hurn Sports and Social Club takes place between 2pm and 6pm. The project team will be available to discuss the scheme, which is intended to create a less congested road network for the Wessex Fields designated business site by Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

The proposals are being developed by Bournemouth council, Dorset County Council and the Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership, with a decision due to be made in spring.

Campaign group Friends of Riverside submitted a list of objections to the plans, alongside a petition with Holdenhurst Village Parish Meeting, which gained around 1,500 signatures.

Objectors claim the scheme will lead to increased air and noise pollution, the loss of green belt and a listed barn.

Several bodies have also expressed concerns about the plan, including Wessex Water, Natural England and Dorset Wildlife Trust.

However, Bournemouth council says the proposals will transform the infrastructure in and around Wessex Fields, creating around 2,000 jobs and safeguarding the existing 10,000 jobs.
