RESURFACING works on two main Poole roads will start today (MON).

The works will take place on Alder Road and Sandbanks Road throughout this month.

Alder Road, between Herbert Avenue and Yarmouth Road, will be closed from 7am today through to 5.30pm on Friday. During this time the junction of Alder Road with Playfields Drive will also be closed.

A southbound closure will be in place from Yarmouth Road to Ashley Road from 7am on Monday, February 19, through to 5.30pm on Wednesday, February 28. This will also include the closure of the junctions of Gwynne Road and Recreation Road.

Two resurfacing teams will operate simultaneously in different parts of the road to help complete the work as quickly and as safely as possible. Stop/go signs will be used to manage traffic.

The £570,000 programme of works will also include the installation of a pedestrian crossing across Alder Road at the Herbert Avenue junction and a link between the traffic signals at Herbert Avenue and Yarmouth Road to help ease congestion.

A temporary diversion will be in place for HGVs via Ringwood Road and Bournemouth Road.

Resurfacing works will start at Sandbanks Road between the railway bridge near Tennyson Road and including the junction of Pottery Road from 7am today until approximately 7pm tomorrow.

However, the junctions of Salterns Road, Pottery Road, Whitefield Road and Sherwood Avenue will be closed from 7am to 7pm tomorrow to enable the work to be carried out safely.

Once this work has finished it will complement the resurfacing works carried out in October last year from the Civic Centre to the railway bridge.

Borough of Poole traffic manager Richard Pincroft said: “To minimise disruption to road users we have scheduled these works to take place during half term when there is generally 15% less traffic during this period.

“We appreciate that these improvements will cause some disruption to road users and would ask motorists to allow extra time for their journeys or use an alternative route when possible.”

The council’s ongoing resurfacing programme will also see improvements to Wimborne Road and Ringwood Road between now and April 2018.
