AN ELDERLY man died at Boscombe Library on Monday afternoon from a suspected heart attack after falling ill.

Bournemouth Borough Council confirmed the identity of the man had not been provided to them and the matter will now be dealt with by the coroner’s service.

A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: “Dorset Police were called at 1.57pm on Monday, February 5, to reports of a sudden death of a 77-year-old man at Boscombe Library. His death isn’t being treated as suspicious. The coroner has been notified and the man’s next of kin have been informed.”

A spokesperson from the council’s housing department said: “It is unclear whether the gentleman was homeless or in accommodation.

“The identity has not been given to us but the rough sleeper team engaged with a gentleman of a similar age in the area approximately a week ago who declined their support.

“Currently the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol which started last week for all rough sleepers wanting emergency accommodation, is still in place.”
