CONCERNED residents met police and community leaders at the weekend, as part of a special event to tackle antisocial behaviour on a Poole estate.

The drop-in surgery, organised for Arne Avenue neighbours, took place at the Bourne Valley Youth Centre, Northmere Road, on Saturday afternoon.

Alderney ward councillor Louise Russell, representatives from Poole Housing Partnership and members of Borough of Poole's anti-social behaviour team were onhand at the session.

Cllr Russell told the Daily Echo: "Our partner agencies are here today to let residents come along and speak to the police on an individual basis about their concerns about what is happening in Arne.

"I'm hearing the concerns of the residents, and that is why I am here today - to help our residents and make them feel comfortable.

"This is a one-off surgery for our residents."

Earlier this month around 100 residents of Arne Avenue and the surrounding area packed a meeting at the same youth centre to discuss issues relating to a spate of recent antisocial behaviour.

Angry neighbours called for action and the installation of CCTV at key sites.

In January Morebus temporarily suspended bus services in the area after company vehicles came under repeated attacks from youths, who hurled missiles and smashed windows as the buses drove past

Bournemouth West MP Conor Burns also met with residents at the drop-in (TBC) to discuss their concerns.

"When I was first elected the Rossmore area, along with West Howe, was deemed an area where there were challenges," he said.

"My sense had been we had got the situation under control, but it certainly seems issues have returned.

"Clearly the problem has got very bad again so I think it is time for a frank discussion on the challenges."

Mr Burns also confirmed that he met with the Bourne Valley Action Group prior to the heated meeting which took place on January 23 having been unable to attend the meeting itself.

- TWO children were charged last week following an alleged knifepoint chase through Arne Avenue.

The boys, both 13, are accused of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

No-one was injured.
