FOLLOWING his viral snooze in the House of Commons on Tuesday, New Forest West MP Desmond Swayne was wide awake to ask the Prime Minister a question this afternoon - sparking jovial scenes in Parliament.

Mr Swayne stood to ask about supermarket chain Iceland's move to remove plastic packaging from all their own brand products.

However, before he could ask PM Theresa May his question, noise erupted in the house until Mr Bercow stepped in and delivered a swift quip on Mr Swayne's sleeping patterns.

Mr Bercow said: "The right honourable gentleman is extremely alert and I'm alert to what he is going to say."

Seeing the lighter side of the situation, Mr Swayne said: "A question keeps me awake at night. How will companies be encouraged to follow her (Mrs May) lead in the way that Iceland has done?"

The footage of Mr Swayne falling asleep in the early stages of an 11-minute speech from Ken Clarke MP on EU rights picked up significant traction online on Tuesday.
