The Met Office has lifted a weather warning of strong winds for Dorset for tonight.
A yellow alert – meaning be aware – was first issued on Monday.
It was due to be in force from 9pm until 11am on Thursday.
Winds of up to 70mph had been predicted with a small chance of 80mph gusts in places.
The Met Office warned road, rail and ferry services could be affected with potential for longer journey times or cancellations.
There was also a risk of injuries and danger to life from flying debris along with power cuts and damage to buildings.
Earlier today the warning was downgraded.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said some southern parts could miss the worst of the conditions.
This evening the weather warning for the south has been lifted altogether.
A warning remains in place for Wales, the Midlands, north west England and Yorkshire and Humber.
