DRIVERS already frustrated by Poole’s spate of roadworks are facing another major headache on Monday after a gas leak on a major route into town.

Southern Gas Network has spent the weekend repairing a “significant” leak at Ashley Cross.

The work, at the junction of Commercial Road with Station Road, is due to continue on Monday.

The leak happened a short distance from another set of roadworks, at the junction of Commercial Road with Church Road.

Southern Gas Networks said: “To keep everyone safe around our site, there is no right turn from Commercial Road into Station Road. Traffic is also not able to turn right from Station Road into Commercial Road.

“It’s too early to say how long it will take to complete our repair but we’ll provide a further update on Monday.”

Borough of Poole said the problem was a “significant gas leak”.

The council added there were “likely to be significant delays in this area due to works already taking place at the Commercial Road/Church Road junction”.

Drivers have been contending with lengthy delays from resurfacing work at Blandford Road, which finished the weekend, as well as roadworks on Holes Bay Road.

Further jams are expected from today as lane closures begin on the A35 Upton bypass.
