NEW plans to replace a former care home in Bournemouth with flats have been rejected.
Crosby Lodge, at 2 Fitzharris Avenue in Charminster, has been in unauthorised use as a house in multiple occupation, but last year permission to formally establish this usage was denied.
At a planning board meeting ward councillor Don McQueen said cars from the property’s tenants were causing “havoc” in the road outside, and the property was “overcrowded”.
The new plan by applicant Mrs K Mhana was to demolish the building and construct a block of five flats.
However, in their report, borough planning officers said: "The existing building is attractive and locally distinctive.
"The proposed replacement is considered to be bland and poor design with no reference to local character and no high quality distinctive elements that would justify it."
