Ferndown's Barrington Theatre has new 10-year lease

Just a year ago the Barrington Theatre in Ferndown was forced to close its doors for a week amid financial difficulties.

But it has now been taken over by the Prama Foundation and its future looks rosy.

Local community outreach charity PramaLIFE will now manage the facility until 2028.

The Prama Foundation has been collaborating with Ferndown Town Council and the Neighbourhood Watch to formalise agreements as well as working with East Dorset District Council to take on the lease and agree revenue grants to ensure the centre’s future.

Steve Robinson,chief executive officer, PramaLIFE said: "Our newly signed transfer of the lease will safeguard this much-loved centre to ensure it continues to provide valued facilities to the community.

"Many local clubs and societies continue to regularly meet at the Barrington, but we are also keen to see the centre thrive and welcome new users of all ages. The transfer of the lease gives PramaLIFE and the centre’s users added security now the formalities have been dealt with.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local community and our centre users for showing great support and flexibility during a significant period of change."

Cllr Andy Skeats, portfolio holder for community, East Dorset District Council added: "The Barrington Centre is a wonderful community facility for residents and I am so pleased that it’s future is now secured.

"For a short period of time last year the future of the centre looked uncertain but PramaLIFE worked hard to reopen the centre quickly to minimise disruption. East Dorset District Council will continue to work with, and support, PramaLIFE moving forward."

A programme of maintenance of the Barrington Centre has also recently begun, which has seen investment from PramaLIFE who have been making improvements to the kitchen area.
