PEOPLE across Dorset are being invited to write a message of support for families caring for a life-limited child this Christmas.

Julia’s House, the Dorset and Wiltshire children’s hospice charity, included a blank festive card in its Christmas Appeal, which been landing on doormats in recent days.

More than 400 cards have already been returned by donors and well-wishers.

Julia’s House plans to display the cards around its hospices in Corfe Mullen and Devizes and at its family winter party in January.

The Dorset appeal features little Chloe, who is two-years-old. She and her twin sister Eloise are rare ‘MoMo’ twins who shared the same birth sac – and a high risk of complications. Both babies nearly died and Chloe has been left brain damaged and needs round-the -clock care.

Julia’s House supports Chloe and her family with care at their home and at the hospice in Corfe Mullen, giving her parents a much-needed break.

Her mum Rachel, said: "Five days after giving birth to twins I went home with two balloons instead of two babies. We only got five congratulations cards. People simply didn’t know what to say, others avoided me altogether. I felt unbelievably sad.

"Julia’s House was like this ray of light coming into our lives. Knowing that once a week I have the chance to leave the house and have a break - have contact with the outside world – means everything to me."

Messages that have come in so far include:

"Dear family, sending you all a big virtual hug, love and prayers for a new year that brings contentment and calm. You are all amazing."

"Thinking of you and wishing you all possible hope and support from those around you."

"I wish you all happiness and cheerful smiles with a spark in your eyes so that all your dreams come true."

"I don’t know you but I am thinking of you and your family at this time of year."

"I hope you find special times this Christmas that will form wonderful memories."
