THOUSANDS of toys have been donated to make the Daily Echo's 21st anniversary toy appeal the best ever.

We have been stunned by the generosity of our readers who have donated at collection points across Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch.

One generous benefactor donated two new Xbox consoles, complete with controllers and games, which will be donated to children's wards at Poole and the Dorset County Hospitals.

Popular toys including Lego, My Little Pony, Trolls, Disney Princess and Star Wars were all well-represented.

There are hundreds of cuddly toys, puzzles, games and arts and crafts sets and story time for many children will be transformed by the donation of scores of books.

The Daily Echo joined forces again this year with Amelia's Rainbow, which supports families with terminal, life-limiting and serious chronic illnesses.

Representatives from the charity will give toys to around 100 families it supports and will also visit children's wards on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Collecting hundreds of the toys, Amelia's Rainbow spokeswoman Natalie Newman said: "We are so overwhelmed - it is incredible.

"It's hard to explain how many smiles these toys will bring to the children - we had families in tears when we turned up last year.

"It is a very hard time of year for our families, especially for those who are bereaved. We are also very proud to support the siblings of children affected because it can be very hard for them too."

The Salvation Army in Boscombe has also collected toys which will be distributed to families in need across the area.

Others due to benefit include children's centres and refuges.
