A FOUNDATION set up in memory of a teenager killed in a skiing accident has raised £100,000 in the two years since his death.

Canford School student Louis Ross was just 17-years-old when he suffered fatal injuries during a holiday in Meribel in France.

Since then his parents, Penny and John, along with Louis' sisters and family friends, have held numerous fundraising events after establishing the Louis Ross Foundation.

The latest round of donations saw £5,000 donated to Faithworks Wessex's Sleepsafe Project, which helps vulnerable to people off the streets of Bournemouth.

The project, which runs during the winter months, rotates to different churches in Bournemouth town centre and Boscombe and supports those who are keen to improve their lives and leave rough sleeping behind.

Last year, 47 of the 80 people who accessed the project were helped into safe accommodation.

The foundation also donated £1,000 to Beaucroft Foundation School's post-16 pupils which will go towards a trip to Disneyland Paris.

A donation of £2,376 was made to Langside School for an outdoor musical garden and a trip to an ice rink.

And the Wimborne Wagtails Swim Club, for people with physical and learning disabilities, received £1,325 to go towards the cost of training volunteer lifeguards.

Louis' mum, Penny, said the foundation welcomes applications from organisations in need and added: "We like to take our time and do some research to ensure the money goes to causes that feel personal to us.

"It is two years since we lost Louis so this is a very difficult time of year for us but we will continue to raise funds in the new year."

One of the events planned is a Burns Night celebration, to be held at Shapwick Church on January 20. Tickets are available from penny@louisross.org
