A LITTLE boy has died after a crash in Bournemouth.

Police were called to reports of a very serious collision involving a black Vauxhall Corsa and a five-year-old boy in Naseby Road at 3.54pm on Wednesday.

The boy had been crossing the road when the crash took place. He suffered a serious head injury and was taken to Poole Hospital, where he died a short time later.

Police confirmed this morning that the little boy was with a parent at the time of the accident.

The coroner has been notified of his death.

The driver of the car, a local woman aged in her 20s, was shaken but uninjured.

The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and collision investigators examined the scene.

Sergeant Joe Pardey, of the traffic unit, said: “It is with great sadness for me to say that this young boy died from the injuries he sustained in the collision. Our thoughts are with all his family and friends.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision and has yet to speak to officers to please contact Dorset Police.

"I would ask anybody who was in the area at the time to consider any dashcam or CCTV footage they may have which could assist us in our investigation.”

The air ambulance, which was also called out, landed in a field in East Way.

An eye-witness said she saw the crew get into a police car, which made its way towards the scene of the crash.

However, a spokesperson from the South Western Ambulance Service Trust said the boy was taken to Poole Hospital by a double-crewed land ambulance.

The road was shut between Limited Road and Easter Road.
